Blige & Saadiq chatting

October 31, 2009

Blige was a keynote speaker at a film and television music conference hosted by Billboard Magazine and the Hollywood Reporter. The R&B veteran was joined by Raphael Saadiq, who shares producing and writing credits on “I Can See in Color,”.She discussed the process of writing ” I Can see in Color”, the soundtrack from the movie “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push.

“I was damaged, in a good way,” Blige said of writing and recording the song.“It was a moment where everyone had something to say,” Blige said of writing the song. “Everyone had a moment of ‘me too.’ … It came from everyone’s experience, including Precious, LeNeah and me.”

On Another hand, Saadiq was inflenced by Donna Hathaway’s classic touch on” Giving up” -It’s a song that has a gradual, piano-driven build that keeps the focus squarely on the singer, and one that reflected the emotions and contradictions Blige wanted to tap into.

“I see life in colors,” Blige said when asked to explain the song’s lyrics. “When I’m depressed, and going through something, it’s in black and white. The flowers are not yellow.”

Saadiq admitted to being slightly disturbed by “Precious.” Saadiq said he called his uncle after a screening, and thanked him for not abusing him. “He was just like, ‘What?’”.“It was pretty rough watching,” Saadiq said. “I liked the move, but I don’t know if I can watch it again.”

Janelle Monae, the New Bjork

October 31, 2009

Janelle Monae the new black Bjork was raging all over the place during the 2009 Voodoo Experience at City Park on October 30, 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana.I gathered all the pictures and there’s one thing that really  struck a chord: She plays the space in a violently happy kind of way, her babydoll expressions are just amazing, we only see her and nothing else.It wouldn’t suprise me at all to see her ranked one of the most influential icon along with Madonna, Andre 300, Bjork, Jean-Paul Gaultier..More Pictures

Watch : Live performance at the SWSX musical festival

Yankees rule so does Jay-Z

October 31, 2009

Jay Z and Alicia did a great song.As far as i’m concerned, i would never have thought of Jay Z and Alicia doing a collaboration.I’m still trying to figure out how the idea occured. The man behind this is not only a creative genius but he did a awesome job.I’m freaking loving this city. Its reminded me another hit, back in days, sung by Frank Sinatra : ” New York, New York”.Another musical evidence that “this godamn city” is one of the top spots to live in.

BMF : Wyclef rocked.Badu not so much.

October 30, 2009

Wyclef Jean

If my pounding head and still-ringing ears are any indication I think I had a really good time at the Bermuda Music Festival last night. Blame it all on Wyclef. The multi-platinum recording artist kept the crowd jumping until 1:30 a.m., an electrifying performance that included old-school Fugees hits (Fug-Gee-Laa), Wyclef classics (Stayin’ Alive, Gone Til November), and Bob Marley covers (No Woman No Cry, I Shot the Sheriff, Redemption Song).

Want a taste of what last night was like? Check out this 50-second YouTube video. I guess yesterday’s workout at the Fairmont Southampton paid off. Holy energy Batman! Unfortunately the same can’t be said of Erykah Badu, who lulled the crowd with her smooth, sultry voice. Neither of which was a bad thing, but the two performances couldn’t have been more different.

With her own brand of laid-back neo-soul, Badu was the potatoes next to Wyclef’s meat (wow, did I just write that? I must’ve had a rougher night than I thought!). And as I suspected, Naturally 7 was indeed the real deal, as the soulful septet blew away the crowd with their R&B and acapella stylings. Tonight’s lineup: James

The Week end Movie : Gentlemen Broncos

October 30, 2009

This strikes me as the kind of movie where all the funniest jokes are already in the trailer.

“Gentlemen Broncos” — This latest comedy from the makers of indie sensation “Napoleon Dynamite” is so weird, so off, so simply wrong that even freakish nerd Napoleon would have a hard time lending it his catch word, “Sweet.” The husband-and-wife team of director Jared Hess and co-writer Jerusha Hess, who followed “Napoleon Dynamite” with basically the same movie in “Nacho Libre,” strain to mine another misfit story in like vein. Michael Angarano stars as an aspiring sci-fi writer whose story is stolen by his literary hero (Jemaine Clement). Clement is the lone highlight by virtue of being occasionally funny and not completely off-putting like the rest of the cast, which includes Jennifer Coolidge, Sam Rockwell, Mike White, Halley Feiffer and Hector Jimenez. The filmmakers wallow in such gags as explosive reptile defecation, gonad theft and projectile vomiting, delivering a chaotic, infuriating mess that will challenge the most-devoted of the “Napoleon Dynamite” faithful. PG-13 for some crude humor. 90 minutes. One and a half stars out of four. David Germain, AP Movie Writer
