Another Bankruptcy Tale : Marck Ecko

November 16, 2009
Marc Ecko Hosts "All In For Tikva" Casino Night

I didnt even seen it passing in my news channel, so many bankruptcy tales are going on thanks to the recession that  its  impossible to keep it up with all. While i was browsing the medialanscape to get my traditionnal morning news i stumbled up on an article from the NYP reporting the lost control of Marck Ecko’own brand last september of this year.

As reported the hip-hop clothing kingpin  signed over a 51 percent interest in the Marc Ecko brand to Iconix, a New York company that owns a slew of fashion brands including Joe Boxer, Candie’s, Rocawear and London Fog.Ecko this year had laid off workers and auctioned off his watch trademarks and Avirex brand to raise cash in order to pay creditors.

Why is that a surprise ? Marcko made his way through  fashion retailing because  at the time he had a very good concept and there was an untaped market for urban clothing.Since things has evolved, he became a big spending party boy wich itself has completely thrown him out of touch with the “real urban market”.As an economist told me once the sole key to make your business profitable is control and reduce small costs like paper, power, cars, leases, pen…its theses insignificants costs once managed that make your way to fortune.Hence why Si Newhouse canceled Conde Nast’s famous Christmas lunch for the second year in a row and  hired a crisis management expert to reduce drasticaly costs, read no more “Pellegrino, Orangina, Red Bull, Fidji water” for Condenast cafeteria.

Sources said Ecko is still struggling to lease out pieces of his luxurious 280,000- square-foot headquarters in Midtown, which houses everything from a recording studio to a basketball court.Basically, Marck Ekco is best single encapsulated by all the things you should avoid to do once you head a business.

“I’ve had a crazy, wild ride. I’ve done a lot of things that have been naive,” Ecko told The Post. “I’ll take my lumps for a lot of things that, in retrospect, were a little indulgent. Life happens. I don’t regret any of it.”

Last Night in Moscow

November 15, 2009
Russian RnB star Timati and his Black Star Band perform in Moscow
Rapper Timati with his Black Star Band performs The Boss show in the Milk nightclub.
Though we’re in the age of internet and fast communications around the world, I would never ever have guessed Hip Hop music having an audience in Russia until i heard  recently of  Rapper Timati whom litterally stunned on them- he became famous due to a daddy’s money… all Russian-language people do not respect him and of course  talented russian rappers don’t like this idiot -when its comes to rap in Russian.. Aside the hot chicks whispering from time to time i didnt have a clue about what he was saying when i watched the music video, but i have to admitt rapping in russian is pretty much awesome in a certain kind of way.

French love gangsters doing “it” in style [criminal culture]

November 15, 2009

French criminal culture is far away from what could happen around the world, rules breakers and rogues are litterally loved and celebrated as long as they do it with style of course.

Last thursday,Tony Musulin -a security van driver- made headlines when he stole 11 millions euros from the Bank of France and disappeared with the loot. The media landscape went aghast, triumphantly informing the public that the French Police aka Chicken did not have a clue as to where the hell he was.Overnight Tony has become an internet star in France ,he now has a fan club on Facebook wich describes as hero and “Best Driver for 2009”.

French celebrate obessesively the criminal culture, they are always smart and charming when portrayed in films as opposed to dimwit cops.

In september, a man accused of the brutal murder of two women escaped from a jail in Burgundy.Jean Pierre Treiber hid inside a cardboard box in the prison workshop and had himself “delivered” to the outside world as part of a consignement stationnery. On the run ever since, Mr Trieber has managed to outwit the dumb cops at every turn not to mention ridiculing them in front of the entire nation when he sent his prison identity to a french magazine and love letters to his girlfriend.French simply cheered on him.Film makers meanwhile are already penning the script.

The bank robber Michel Vaujour made history in 1986 when he fashioned a replica gun from a bar of soap and barged his way on to the prison roof where his obliging wife(having cleverly learned to fly a helicopter in her spare time) hovered above the prison and scopped him up and away from prison.

Of course, his 27 years behind bars was smartly turned in a psychological account on how to cope and jail breaking. At the screening well educated, well dressed, Parisian women were tearfully thanking him for his honesty, humility, and humanity.

Even Jacques Chirac,Nicolas Sarkozy predecessor, was voted the most popular French politician alive though he was ordered by French magistrates to stand trial on embezzlement charges.Meanwhile Nicolas Sarkozy hit an all-time low in the opinions poll..

Tuesday News Round Up

November 10, 2009

Our  favorites two famewhores who will use anything in their obsession for attention explained us that they were totally made for each other.Jon Gosselin and Levi Johnston appeared together in Times Square in NYC on Sunday. Levi was in town for his Playgirl shoot when he says he ran into Gosselin, who was in town filming commercials. The two posed for photos in near-identical pea coats. “You never know when celebrities turn up,” one onlooker marveled. We might accidentally see in horror and amazement Jon Gosselin showing it all before the camera for the next Playgirl issue ;a prerequisite for landing a scary movie gig in Hollywood.

Rupert Murdoch says he wants one of his children to succeed him at News Corp. “I am sure one of them will emerge,” he says. “It would be nice.” His family, with about 40% of the voting rights, will “have a lot of say.” Murdoch, 78, adds that he will step down “when I start to lose it.”Meanwhile he told Sky News interviewer David Speers that he will remove his news sites — The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, The Times of London and many more — from Google’s search index.Watch the interview

AOL is appointing Susan Lyne, the former CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, to its board of directors, as the online company continues to put its leadership together ahead of its spinoff from Time Warner. The spinoff is still expected before year-end.

Village Voice Media, the publisher of 14 local U.S. publications, including the 54-year-old Village Voice, is focusing on growth in Internet advertising, with its recently launched Voice Local Network. The Internet side of the business is up 75% from last year.

And Gabourey Sidibe a plus-size, African-American actress with less-than-perfect features – fits no casting agents definition of a leading lady. But she is not deterred. I never wanted to be an actress, said Sidibe, 24, the star of the just-released Precious, whose understated performance as an abused, 350-lb, illiterate teenager has garnered critical acclaim and unexpectedly catapulted her onto the shortlist of potential Oscar nominees

Andre Agassi is primarily concerned with Andre Agassi, according to a New York Times review of his ghostwritten autobiography Open. Reviewer Janet Maslinwrites that Agassi’s interests do not extend far “beyond tennis, more tennis, the misery of tennis, the way sportswriters misunderstand tennis and the irritating celebrity that tennis stardom confers.”

Other admissions from the book: Agassi took crystal meth in 1997, the worst year of his career; he’s lied about his love of tennis to interviewers over the years; and his frosted mullets may have included portions of toupee. Maslin calls the book “anticlimactic” but says it is saved by “somebody on the memoir team” with “great gifts for heart-tugging drama.
