The film brings together images, music and narration with re-creations of American moments of resistance. There’s the Declaration of Independence; speeches by Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr.; songs by Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Public Enemy; and a call to action by Cindy Sheehan among many others.

Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz attends The New York Film Festival closing night screening of “Broken Embraces,” Pedro Almodovar’s 17th feature film at Lincoln Center last night.

KURT ANDERSEN (Author of Reset, Host of Studio 360) first thought after walking out of the theather was: “Hitchcock with nudity ! “

It’s a good old-fashioned mystery about a blind filmmaker and his movie-actress former girlfriend (played by Penelope Cruz), well-plotted and emotionally affecting as well as sexy and witty. (Interestingly, the one gay character is a creep.)
