48 Hours in Milan

December 4, 2009

I was looking for travel luggages the other day, suprisingly i didnt found a large choice when you want to hustle through the airport in style.Between the monogramed Louis Vuitton collection sounding too much “cliché ” and the Bottega Venetta Marco Polo collection more partial to Safari circus, i have decided to head for something more “exquisite”.. Montblanc has exactly what I needed except for the type of luggage, apparently these are made for those whom travel “light” but anyway its gorgeous.

Maxime Manufacture Automatic wrist watch

October 25, 2009

This relative young brand started creating their own inhouse movements in 2004 (with their Frédérique Constant Heart Beat Manufacture). During BaselWorld 2009, Frédérique Constant introduced the Maxime Manufacture Automatic wrist watch, with inhouse caliber FC-700. The movement has a power reserve of 42 hours and features blued screws and a niceley engraved rotor that enables you to have a maximum view at the movement.

Frédérique Constant went from a rather unknown Geneva brand with both quartz and (ETA) mechanical movements to a brand that can add itself to the list of the lucky few [watch brands] with an inhouse mechanical movement. Therefore, Frédéric Constant becomes an interesting target for the more serious watch collectors and buyers.

Kris Van Assche takes on Style

October 21, 2009

The man helming Dior Homme just unveiled his rules when its comes to style on the Details website. He started straight away by dissing other fashion houses whom only care about the catwalk/show and certainly dont give a damn about how their clothes will be worn, hence why put on a regular guy its a real fashion mess. Here’s an excerpt

  • Don’t disguise your personality behind labels; impose it on the clothes.
  • speaking of grooming, there’s nothing less flattering than shaved legs.
  • Black is always good. It’s the basic.
  • Don’t just copy an outfit. Look in the mirror and do a reality check. It’s all about making the good match. You’ll know when something is right
  • Now men should be athletic, healthy. Today it’s about having a balance in life—having nice clothes, good food, and respecting your body.

Another Bankruptcy’s Tale : Yohji Yamamoto

October 11, 2009

Saddled with a $76 million debt, Yohji Yamamoto has filed for bankruptcy protection in Japan. Thanks God, someone-an investor- believed that Yohji is too iconic and inspirational to fail that he offered to bail him out of the whole mess.Investment firm Integral Corporation will infuse the Yamamoto empire with cash and help with management.Being a Yohji Yamamoto’s devotee and ex employee for years I can surely tell you that he’s one of the best designer of all times but forced to admitt that he had to make a more “sellable collection”  to weather the recession.

Basically everyone is cutting back : Especially in Japan once the world’s most avid shoppers of luxury,Japanese women are turning fast to low-cost brands like Uniqlo or H&M that Versace announced that it would close its Japanese store and Louis Vuitton abandonned plans to open a 12-story store in Ginza.

Bespoke by Alexander Amosu [Trends]

September 28, 2009

This found video of Alexander Amosu Luxury Bespoke Suit Line ‘s presentation in the street of London caught my attention because when its comes to pick up a suit it has always been a fashion mess between a great fabric but poorly executed or a good tailored suit in a less desirable fabric. And I have to admit those ones are looking perfectly executed and the materials are as Anna Wintour will put it :” just gorgeous”.Saville Row- hands down for sure- rules !
