Carla Bruni Sarkozy From Supermodel to First Lady

Bio from the French Magazine Paris Match

Though the French profess a certain disdain for Sarkozy’s unpresidential style, they clearly cannot get enough. “Carla has led many lives,” the noted journalist Christine Ockrent, whose companion, Bernard Kouchner, is the French foreign minister, tells me. “She’s a kind of alpha female. She was never a courtesan like Pamela Harriman—she was more like a female Don Juan.” Carla Bruni is no stranger to privilege.

In the opening scene of her sister Valeria’s semi-autobiographical film, It’s Easier for a Camel … , the female protagonist goes to church to confess, “I am rich—I am very, very rich.” Bruni was born into one of the industrial dynasties in Turin. The family fortune came from the ceat company, which produced electrical cable. Alberto Bruni-Tedeschi, the patriarch, however, was as much a composer and art collector as a capitalist. “He could converse on anything from A to Z,” says a family friend.

Carla’s extroverted mother, Marisa, who appears in Valeria’s films, was a concert pianist. Carla, Valeria, and their brother, Virginio, grew up on a vast estate outside the city. Carla studied piano, violin, and guitar. “Ours were not the kind of parents who would spend time with children,” she tells me. But neither, she adds, were they interested “in the power of money. Maybe because my parents were artists.

I remember that every time my father had to choose between increasing his business and going to the museum he would go to the museum, and I think that was transmitted to us.” In 1975, when the Red Brigades were kidnapping wealthy individuals, Carla’s family moved to Paris, where she attended an Italian school and received a French baccalaureate. Her parents expected her to continue her studies, but she soon tired of the 37 Métro stops it took to get to classes on art and architecture, and she couldn’t wait to be on her own. So when her brother’s girlfriend, a model, told her to try modeling, she made her move. “What I wanted was to be free, independent of my parents,” says Carla. “Modeling is a fast-acting job—right away you get to work, and you learn in two or three months by working.” That became her pattern: take on a big challenge, learn fast, and land on top.

Carla Bruni Sarkozy on the web

Though its bugging from time to time since its launch thanks to high traffic, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy website,carlabrunisarkozy.org, made its ranks within a bunch of other highly read political news websites.Among them the artistically acclaimed Segoléne Royal’s website, she was a presidential candidate for 2007.Club Villepin.fr, the former Prime Minister website and Elysée twitter account ..etc

A start with bugs and media coverage, discovering a design with pastel colors, clean, inspiring glossy upscale, the French quickly drawn the parallel with “ Your desired Future’ Ségoléne Royal website which has caused an overnight media firestorm. But not so fast, the comparison stoped at the design similarities, Segolene Royal being a left -wing politician as opposed to Carla Bruni Sarkozy whom married a right- wing politician.

Mandela Day: A 46664 Celebration Concert - Show
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy performs during the Mandela Day

While the singer has already a site dedicated to her albums, this new portal, created by Zeni, the agency’s Web Keyrus group, leans on her other hats – each with its own color code: Ambassador activities for the Global Funds against AIDS, those of her foundation which are aimed to “facilitate access to culture, education and knowledge to fight against social inequalities, and Finally, Carla, first lady.

It gives a homepage  where we can pretty much find everything from  an article listing the “10 things to know about AIDS,”  to another on the culture in prison or the story of her day with Michelle Obama in Pittsburgh and an interview with Jean-Paul Gautier, etc..

“In many parts of the world, when one hears the name” Carla “, it is likely to be Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. But since December 15, 2007, where she was seen with the president, its has  dramatically increased, she’s more popular as ever.

American Muslims To Fort Hood Shooter: ‘Thanks A Lot, Asshole’

FORT HOOD, TX—Following Army psychologist Nidal Malik Hasan’s shooting rampage on the Fort Hood military base last week that left 13 people dead and 30 others injured, fellow Muslims across the nation sent him a message today, saying “thanks a fucking bunch, asshole,” to the 39-year-old killer. “Hey, great, eight years of progress right down the shitter,” St. Cloud, MN resident Zahida Naseem said at one of dozens of impromptu rallies held nationwide. “And you just had to scream ‘Allahu Akbar’ while you did it, didn’t you? May as well have put on a turban and rode a fucking camel right through the army base, you dick. Thanks for making the foreseeable future a living hell for normal, peace-loving Muslims in this country. Really appreciate it!” American Sikhs are also reportedly enraged with Hasan, and an official statement from the National Sikh Heritage Center read, in part, “look, we got nothing to do with that guy.

1,000 dominoes in Berlin

November 8, 2009
Preparation For Germany's Fall of the Berlin Wall Celebrations

Thousands of curious Berliners lined the centre of the German capital Saturday to admire over 1,000 giant polystyrene dominos set to topple Monday, marking 20 years since the Berlin Wall came down.

“It’s really very beautiful, it’s a terrific idea”, enthused 74-year-old Berlin resident Barbara Graff, taking photos of the 2.5 metre-high coloured dominos.

“November 9, 1989? Of course I remember! That night I went to the Ku’damm (the main shopping artery in West Berlin), and I distributed money to the people arriving en masse from the East.”

Jorg Schmidt, 45 years-old, admired “the diversity and expressive power” of the dominos, which were decorated by artists and cultural institutes, but also Berlin schoolchildren and teenagers.

“This proves that people reflected on what reunification represents,” said the civil servant who grew up in the East,”and that’s very good because today young people don’t know anything about all of this.”

Fort Hood Victims List

November 6, 2009
Twelve Dead In Mass Shooting At Fort Hood

Who is Nidal Hassan Malik ?

Nidal Hassan Malik was born in the United States, near Washington, to parents of Palestinian origin. He was able to study and become a psychiatrist engaging in the army. He has long worked at Walter Reed center in the federal capital, a military hospital where they treat soldiers who have psychiatric problems when returning from combat zones. For years then he heard the suffering of these people, traumatized by their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan, and had therefore to learn that they would send him there. Besides, some of his relatives say he was feeling rejected or harassed in the army because of his Muslim origins. He even tried to leave the army, without managing to break his contract.

[Meghan McCain] ‘Don’t call me a slut!’

October 19, 2009

6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a644634d970c-1

Bored, desperate  Twitter-wife Meghan Mc Cain posted a picture of her boobs on the social network which caused an overnight media firestorm.Unsuprisingly  she complained about the negative press on TheDailyBeast.com, explaining the medias went crazy only because she have big nice ones.*sigh*

After all, it’s not like I was caught making a sex tape. I certainly didn’t pose nude for Playboy. And I hadn’t even exposed a nipple.Could it be it’s because I have breasts? Because for those of you who didn’t know, I have two. They’re larger than some women’s and not as big as others. I don’t usually show off my cleavage — as I did in the photos I posted — which I will admit is not the smartest thing I have ever done. For years I have struggled to accept the fact that the way I look in a tank top comes off more ‘sexual’ than a flat-chested woman. And once again I was reassured by the media that someone with my cup size should always be covered up. Or what, I’ll be seen as a slut?

Bad timing, if Meghan had done this last October, we’re sure her father would have gotten’ more votes in the Male 18-65 demographic.

Justice: What’s The Right Thing To Do

October 13, 2009

Harvard’s wildly popular course “Justice” with Michael J. Sand, a moral philosopher who has devoted his life to pondering what is the right thing to do.“I’ve wanted to do Michael’s course for more than 20 years,” said Brigid Sullivan, vice president for educational programming at WGBH, which is co-producing the show.“The difficulty in this course is in teaching what you already know,” he tells his students. “It works by taking what we know from familiar, unquestioned settings and making it strange.

Would you switch a runaway trolley from one track to another if it meant killing one person instead of five? Would it be just as moral to push a person in front of the speeding trolley to stop it and save the five? What about a surgeon killing one healthy person and using his organs so that five people who needed organ transplants could live? Is that moral? Why not?

He has apparently succeeded, at least with some. “The course changed how I think about politics,” Vivek Viswanathan, who graduated in June, wrote in an e-mail message. “Questions of politics, Professor Sandel suggested, are not simply a matter of governing the system of distribution but are connected to what it means to live a ‘good life.”
